Key Roads:

  • Cleddau Bridge: Watch for traffic lights and give way to vehicles in the middle lane. Make sure you check your mirrors and signal early for lane changes.

  • A477: This busy dual carriageway can be tricky. Be cautious of speed limits, and keep an eye out for junctions.

Roundabouts:

  • Pembroke Dock Roundabout: When approaching, signal early and give way to traffic from the right. Watch out for larger vehicles using the roundabout, as they may occupy both lanes.

Landmarks:

  • Pembroke Dockyard: Keep your focus here, as this area is often busy with pedestrians. Pay attention to any warning signs.

  • The Ferry Terminal: A high-traffic area, especially during peak times, so be aware of sudden pedestrian crossings and cyclists.

Tips to Pass:

  1. Mirror checks and signalling: Essential when navigating roundabouts and busy junctions.

  2. Speed awareness: Adhere to speed limits, especially on the A477, where limits can change rapidly.

  3. Pedestrian awareness: Watch out for pedestrians near the dockyard and terminal area.

Change Your Driving Test

Good luck with your test!

*Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) stopped routinely publishing driving test routes in October 2010 in order to support the introduction of independent driving part of the practical driving test. The change was made to give test candidates the chance to demonstrate their ability to drive safely and responsibly (while making decisions independently) in realistic driving situations, rather than memorising a pre-defined test route. Although exact details of driving test routes for each practical driving test centre are no longer published online by DVSA, they remain very similar (if not identical) from year to year. Pembroke Dock driving test routes should be used as a guide only as test routes are subject to change at the discretion of the DVSA test examiners.

FAQ's

Yes – knowing local roads helps you stay calm and confident. While the exact route isn’t shared, practising typical roundabouts or tricky junctions nearby gives you a clear advantage.

Yes – examiners adjust routes due to roadworks, traffic, or to mix things up. These changes aren’t announced, so staying current is key.

Instructors spot new road signs, layouts, or diversions early. Their knowledge helps you train on current conditions, not outdated ones. Combine their advice with RouteBuddy for the most realistic practice.

2–3 times a week is ideal, especially leading up to your test. Practise at different times of day to handle varied traffic and lighting conditions.

DVSA doesn’t publish test routes. But you can follow GOV.UK for general updates. For realistic route practice, RouteBuddy is the go-to tool learners and instructors trust.
